SEG Core — managed IT, cyber security and access control. One contractor · one number.
Home / About us

An IT company inside an electrical contractor.

SEG Core was built to close the gap that costs businesses the most: the one between the people who run your IT and the people who install what it runs on.

Who we are

Delivering core excellence

SEG Core is the managed IT and security division of The Specialist Electrical Group — an established electrical contractor working on electrical installation, compliance, fire detection, renewables, data and security.

That parentage is the whole point. A conventional IT provider can configure your firewall but has to call someone else to get power to the comms room. A conventional security installer can fit cameras but has no view of the network they sit on. We do all of it, with the accreditations, insurance and method statements to work in live commercial buildings.

The result for clients is simpler than the org chart: one order, one team on site, one number to ring, and nobody to point at when something stops working.

What we believe

  • Say the price. We publish what managed IT costs across the market and what drives the number.
  • Say the target. Our response times are on this website before you sign anything.
  • Measure before you design. Survey the building, then specify. Not the other way round.
  • An engineer should answer. Not a script, and not a queue.

Directly employed engineers

Also part of the job

Advice, not just support

We don't sell consulting as a product. It comes with the relationship — because a provider who only fixes what breaks is a provider who never tells you what to stop paying for.

IT strategy & budgets

A three-year view tied to what the business is actually planning — headcount, sites, systems — with the spend forecast alongside it. Reviewed each year with you.

Technology audits

An honest read on infrastructure, licensing and supplier contracts, ranked by risk and cost to fix. If a recommendation is expensive we say so, and set out the cheaper option and what you lose by taking it.

Procurement & vendors

Specifying and negotiating hardware, software and connectivity, then holding suppliers to what they promised. We'll tell you when the right answer is a supplier that isn't us.

Accreditations

Accredited, insured, and already on the approved lists

What that gets you

  • A larger pool of directly employed engineers than an IT provider this size would normally have — and a wider range of trades among them
  • Electrical accreditations, insurances and method statements already in place for work in live commercial buildings
  • One order, one programme and one invoice, whichever brand does the work
  • Nobody subcontracted in, and nobody to point at when something stops working

Where we work

Wherever the building is

Our own engineers work UK-wide. Recent projects run from Leadenhall Market and Marble Arch to Oxford, the Surrey Hills, Buckinghamshire and Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, and estates as large as nine offices from Marlow to Glasgow on one programme.

The office is SEG House in Chiswell Green, St Albans, which is where the vans start from and why response into London and the surrounding counties is quickest. It is not a boundary — if the work justifies the journey, we make it.

Accreditations

The paperwork behind the vans

Our electrical works are delivered through The Specialist Electrical Group, which holds the accreditations commercial clients and main contractors ask for:

NICEIC Approved Contractor CHAS Constructionline Gold SafeContractor TrustMark

Accreditations are held by The Specialist Electrical Group Ltd, whose directly employed engineers deliver our electrical works. Verkada platform accreditation (Gold Partner) is held by SEG Core Ltd.
